To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security, pursuant to his answer of 5 May,Official Report, column 162, in how many cases drafts of letters from chief executives of agencies within his responsibility have been amended by the agencies as a result of the drafts being submitted to Ministers before being sent to the Members to whom they are addressed.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security on what dates drafts of the letters from the chief executive of the Benefits Agency to the right hon. Member for Manchester, Gorton (Mr. Kaufman), dated 4 May, to the hon. Member for Delyn (Mr. Hanson), dated 5 May 1993, and to the hon. Member for Wakefield (Mr. Hinchliffe), dated 4 May, published in theOfficial Report, on 5 May, columns 159–60 and 162–63 were sent to Ministers; and in what respect the letters sent to the right hon. and hon. Members differed from the drafts.

Drafts of the four letters in question were sent to Minister for information on 30 April. I understand that on two of the letters the chief executive of the benefits Agency made some presentational amendments before issue to the right hon. And hon. Members.
