To ask the President of the Board of Trade what is the number of commitment wells required to be drilled by each licensee in each United Kingdom continental shelf sector under existing licences granted by his Department; and for what period these wells are to be drilled.

[holding answer 10 May 1993]: The total number of commitment wells outstanding as at 16 March 1993, to be drilled by licensees on the United Kingdom continental shelf, is 306, as follows:

As licence commitments are commercial-in-confidence, I am unable to supply the numbers by individual licensee.

To ask the President of the Board of Trade, how many obligations remain outstanding for drilling(a) firm and (b) contingent wells under the 11th and 12th United Kingdom offshore licensing rounds.

[pursuant to his reply, 29 April 1993, c. 493]I have now been informed that there are 296 outstanding obligation wells from the 1lth and 12th rounds of offshore licensing. Of these, 185 are firm obligations and 111 are conditional.
