HC Deb 14 May 1993 vol 224 c600W
Mr. Charles Kennedy

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if Gruinard island off Wester Ross was de-crofted during the time it was under Government control; if it was returned to crofting status when it was returned to its previous owner; and if he will make a statement.

Sir Hector Monro

My Department has no information on the precise status of Gruinard island when the land was originally acquired by the then Ministry of Supply. The Crofters Commission has no record of the island ever being under crofting tenure. Under the Crofting Acts, any person with an interest may refer to the Scottish Land Court questions as to whether a holding is a croft.
