To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what has been total sales proceeds from the sale of council houses in Wales to date since 1981; and how much has been(a) allocated from proceeds to develop social housing and (b) held in local authority bank accounts or short-term investments.

Between 1 April 1981 and 31 March 1992, receipts including the repayment of principal on local authority mortgages from the sale of council housing amounted to £793 million. Information on the allocation of the receipts from the sale of council housing to develop social housing and the amounts held in local authority bank accounts or short-term investments is not held centrally.
