HC Deb 13 May 1993 vol 224 c550W
Mr. Harry Greenway

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will review laws under which licences are issued for people to hold guns where objections are made to the authorities by next of kin of the applicant; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Charles Wardle

The Firearms Acts 1968 to 1992 require the chief officer of police to satisfy himself that an applicant for a firearm or shotgun certificate can be permitted to possess a firearm or shotgun without danger to public safety or to the peace. The chief officer may take account of any objections from the applicant's next of kin or anybody else when considering such an application. We have no plans to review this aspect of the law.
