Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what proposals were put forward by the United Kingdom in regard to the European Commission report on access to information; and what discussions took place and what decisions were taken on the report at the Foreign Affairs Council on 10 to 11 May.

None. The Council agreed that the Commission's paper was a good basis for further work and that it should be studied further in the Committee of Permanent Representatives.

Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what proposals were put forward by the United Kingdom on trade and environment at the Foreign Affairs Council on 10 to 11 May.

Mr. Garel-Jones

The United Kingdom did not put forward any specific proposals on trade and the environment at the Foreign Affairs Council on 10 May. Ministers agreed a statement put forward by the presidency on the relationship between trade and environmental policies in advance of the OECD ministerial meeting on 2 June.
