HC Deb 13 May 1993 vol 224 c571W
Mrs. Ray Michie

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what investigation will be made regarding the explosive device found in the sea off Coll; if the results of the inquiry will be published; what steps have been taken to inform and protect west coast fishermen, Caledonian MacBrayne and merchant shipping operating in the area of the risks from explosive devices; if he will give details of the type of ordnance recovered; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

Investigation has established that the item in question was an inert training device. Though the device contained a quantity of detonating cord, this posed no appreciable risk to fishermen or to shipping. These devices are usually recovered after each exercise.
