To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what plans he has to review the workings of the Criminal Justice Act 1991; and if he will make a statement.

Arrangements were made in advance of the implementation of the Act on 1 October 1991 for its effects to be carefully monitored and evaluated. This process is still ongoing, but my right hon. and learned Friend has already said that it will be necessary to make some changes to the sentencing provisions in part I of the Act and in the arrangements under which the courts operate the unit fine system.
