HC Deb 12 May 1993 vol 224 c521W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement as to what the operational sortie requirements were for the Royal Air Force rescue helicopter that flew very low over the village of Clayton, south Yorkshire at approximately 15.48 hours on 25 April.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

The search-and-rescue (SAR) Sea King helicopter from RAF Leconfield was returning to the station from a call-out in Morcambe bay. As the aircraft was on standby to provide SAR cover in the area, and because of the prevailing low cloud, the crew were routed to the north of Sheffield and authorised to fly at low level.
