To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what are the proposed names for the treaties comprising(a) the current treaty of Rome, as amended, with the contents of titles II, III and IV of the treaty on European union signed at Maastricht and (b) titles I, V, VI and VII of the treaty on European union signed at Maastricht.

Following the entry into force of the treaty on European union, four treaties will be in force:

  1. (a) the treaty establishing the European Community ("The EC Treaty") i.e., the present treaty of Rome as amended by title II of the treaty on European union;
  2. (b) the treaty establishing the European Coal and Steel Community ("The ECSC Treaty") as amended by title III of the treaty on European union;
  3. (c) the treaty establishing the European Atomic Energy Community ("The EURATOM treaty") as amended by title IV of the treaty on European union;
  4. (d) the treaty on European union itself, in its entirety.
