HC Deb 11 May 1993 vol 224 c402W
Mr. Turner

To ask the Prime Minister what response he has received from President Clinton to his letter about unitary taxation and the Barclays bank litigation; and if he will place a copy in the Library.

The Prime Minister

[holding answer 10 May 1993]: President Clinton and his colleagues have made it clear to us that the United States Administration fully recognise the importance that the Government attach to this issue, the strength of feeling in the United Kingdom and the risk of retaliatory action by the United Kingdom if a satisfactory solution is not forthcoming. My right hon. Friend the Chancellor reinforced these points in recent discussions with Secretary Bentsen and others in the United States Administration. They have assured us that they are very keen to find a solution to this problem that is acceptable.
