83. Ms Short

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment in what circumstances European Community nationals may count periods of unemployment in which they were in receipt of benefit in another EC country towards the qualifying period of unemployment for eligibility for training for work, learning for work and the community action programme; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. McLoughlin

A person must register with the employment service in this country as unemployed for at least 26 weeks in order to qualify for training for work. Detailed eligibility rules for learning for work and community action have yet to be finalised.

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many people were on the employment training scheme in each month since April 1992.
