To ask the Secretary of State for Education what plans he has to reduce the workload of middle-school teachers in the current year.

My right hon. Friend has frequently placed on record his appreciation of the commitment shown by teachers in implementing the Government's reforms. It is in response to the concern of some teachers that the incremental growth of the national curriculum over several years has led to over-elaboration that my right hon. Friend has asked Sir Ron Dearing to review the curriculum and assessment framework.
