§ Mr. MorganTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales what guidelines he has issued to fund-holding general practitioners in respect of payment for patients referred to treatment centres for ophthalmic, general or orthopaedic surgery.
§ Mr. Gwilym JonesUnder the guidance on treatment centres sent to all general practitioners and general practitioner fund holders, fund holders are eligible for a share of the centrally allocated places available to their district health authority. The cost of treatment for these places is funded centrally by the Welsh Office and there is no charge to general practitioner fund holders. In addition, health authorities and fund holders are free to make contracts with the centres for treatments over and above those funded by the Welsh Office.
