HC Deb 10 May 1993 vol 224 c358W
Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what monitoring of the work of general practitioners in respect of their care of over-75-year-old patients is being undertaken; and if she will make a statement.

Dr. Mawhinney

Family health services authorities are responsible for monitoring of general practitioners locally, in respect of all services provided by GPs.

In addition, the Department of Health has commissioned research from the centre for primary care research (CPCR) in Manchester into the operation of the 75+ health check.

The Department also commissioned a survey from MORI into patients' reactions to the new GP contract. The MORI survey (conducted in 1991) found that almost four out of five of those 75+ patients offered a check-up took advantage of it and nine out of 10 of those who had a check-up found it useful.
