HC Deb 05 May 1993 vol 224 c166W
29. Mr. Menzies Campbell

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement about the future of rail transport in Fife.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

Responsibility for the railways throughout Great Britain is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Transport. The provision of rail services in Fife is at present a matter for British Rail. Under the Government's proposals for the railways we believe that the direct involvement of the private sector will result in a better, more responsive service for the travelling public throughout Scotland including Fife.
