HC Deb 05 May 1993 vol 224 c104W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the President of the Board of Trade which power stations in the United Kingdom have been authorised to use sour gas.

Mr. Eggar

My right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade has given consent under section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989 to the following stations which are to be fuelled by "sour gas":

  • Ryedale, North Yorkshire (50–60 MW)
  • Connah's Quay, Deeside, North Wales (1,350 MW)

Power stations with a capacity of 50 MW or less are dealt with under the Town and Country Planning Acts and my Department does not have information on such stations.

Consents for power stations in Scotland and Northern Ireland are the responsibility of my right hon. Friends the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland respectively.
