HC Deb 05 May 1993 vol 224 cc86-7W
Mr. Boyce

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will list in rank order the top five providers measured in terms of home help hours per year for those aged over 75 years among social services authorities; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Yeo

This information is not available centrally. Figures on hours of home help received by clients of all ages are collected by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy and an indicator relating this information to the resident population aged 75 and over by local authority is included in the Personal and Social Services Key Indicators. A copy of the latest publication, for 1990–91, is available in the Library.

Mr. Boyce

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what assessment she has made of the impact of the annual financial settlement on the level of spending on personal social services in 1993–94.

Mr. Yeo

Total standard spending for local authority personal social services in 1993–94 is £5,585 million, an increase of 15 per cent. over 1992–93. With effective use of these resources, now almost 35 per cent. in real terms above the 1990–91 level, authorities should be able to make progress expanding existing services and fully discharge their new responsibilities for community care.
