To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what assessment he has made of the degree of over-capacity in the United Kingdom meat foods manufacturing sector.

[holding answer 4 May 1993]: Overall capacity of the food industry is for the market place to decide. My contacts with representatives of this sector suggest that they are continuing to invest and are optimistic about the future.
