HC Deb 05 May 1993 vol 224 c121W
Mr. Peter Robinson

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many new jobs have been created in the past two years, how many of these are now in existence; how many jobs have been lost during the same period; and if he will give details of the types of jobs created and lost.

Mr. Atkins

Information on new job creations is not available except to the extent that 2,500 new jobs were created with assistance from the Local Enterprise Development Unit in the calendar year 1991 and 2,490 with assistance from the Industrial Development Board in the financial year 1991–92. All of these jobs were in the manufacturing and services sectors. Information on how many of these are still in existence could be provided only at disproportionate cost. Figures for jobs created in 1992 and 1992–93 are not yet available. The table shows redundancies notified to the Department of Economic Development in 1991 and 1992 and the sectors in which they occurred.
