HC Deb 05 May 1993 vol 224 cc122-5W
Rev. Martin Smyth

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will list the total wage bill of hospital and community health services staff in each board area, in each of the last five years and projected for the next two years, broken down into the principal groups of staff, including consultants, junior doctors and nurses.

Mr. Hanley

[holding answer 30 April 1993]: The information is not readily available in the form requested. The Northern Ireland health and social services boards provide integrated health and personal social services. The boards' accounts for 1992–93 are currently being prepared. However, for the last five years for which accounts are available the salaries and wages bill for each board are set out in the tables. It is not possible to provide accurate forecasts of future pay bills, although for the current financial year the Government's public sector pay restraint policy is designed to hold settlements to 1 per cent.
