HC Deb 04 May 1993 vol 224 c6W
Sir David Steel

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make representations to the United Nations organisation to increase its involvement in the peace process in Sudan and to encourage an investigation into human rights abuses.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

We were a prime mover in securing the appointment by the United Nations Commission on Human Rights in Geneva of a special rapporteur to investigate the human rights situation on a public basis throughout Sudan. We are in touch with our EC partners, the United States and others about further ways in which we might involve the United Nations on Sudan.
