§ Rev. Martin Smyth
To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will give the sums paid for(a) students of the Republic of Ireland and (b) other EC countries studying at tertiary level in Northern Ireland for the past four years for which figures are available.

§ Mr. Hanley
[holding answer 30 April 1993]: Information on the breakdown between students from the Republic of Ireland and other EC countries is not readily available and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost: £876,765 was paid in fees for students from EC countries in 1989–90; £2,616,822 in 1990–91; and £3,830,969 in 1991–92. The provisional figure for 1992–93 is £4,598,250.

§ Mr. Peter Robinson
To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what estimate he has made of the number of third-level student places required in Northern Ireland in 1995 up to the year 2000.

[holding answer 30 April 1993]: It is estimated that the full-time equivalent places required for students on full-time and part-time higher education—undergraduate level—courses will be as follows:
