HL Deb 04 May 1993 vol 545 c29WA
Lord Cocks of Hartcliffe

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Further to the Answer given by Lady Denton of Wakefield on 15th April (H.L. Deb., col. WA 88), whether they acknowledge that, during the demonstration given by Guinness plc to the magistrates at the Bristol Magistrates' Court on 17th February 1964, the presence and purpose of the restrictor in the dispensing equipment was not brought to the attention of the magistrates sitting on the case.

Baroness Denton of Wakefield

Inquiries have been made of the Bristol Magistrates' Court and I am informed that, in the presence of all parties concerned, a very thorough demonstration of the dispensing equipment was given to the two Justices hearing the case and that the notes of evidence state that this demonstration was given to the satisfaction of the Justices. However, the notes do not make clear whether the presence and purpose of the restrictor were brought to the attention of the Justices during the demonstration.
