HC Deb 31 March 1993 vol 222 c306W
21. Mr. Macdonald

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what action he is taking to reduce the level of water rates in rural areas.

Sir Hector Monro

The level of water charges is a matter for water authorities. However grants are available under the Rural Water Supplies and Sewerage Acts 1944 to 1970 to assist capital expenditure by water authorities in rural areas. The effect can be to keep charge levels down.
