HC Deb 31 March 1993 vol 222 c299W
Mr. Miller

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what criteria his Department uses in its recommendations for coverage for search and rescue helicopter deployments for(a)day time and (b)night time.

Mr. Norris

The Department of Transport uses criteria agreed by the United Kingdom Search and Rescue committee which states that search and rescue helicopters should be deployed so that points 40 nautical miles from the coast can be reached within one hour by day in good weather and those at 100 nautical miles from the coast can be reached within two hours by night or in bad weather.
