To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security (1) what is the total sum spent from his Department's budget on Ministers' travel costs and expenses for travel between Britain and France since April 1992;

(2) what is the total sum spent from his Department's budget on travel costs and expenses (a)for foreign travel overall and (b)for travel between Britain and France since April 1992.

The sum spent by the Department of Social Security since April 1992 on foreign travel costs is as follows:

(a) Foreign travel costs and expenses overall = £403,600

(b) The travel costs between Britain and France since April 1992 = £26,735

Spending on fares for Ministers' travel between Britain and France amounts to £4,688. Information about related expenses is not readily available.
