HC Deb 30 March 1993 vol 222 c155W
26. Mr. Cummings

To ask the Secretary of State for Education if he will make a statement about charges made to pupils in secondary schools for educational activities.

Mr. Forth

The Education Reform Act 1988 provides that, with the exception of fees for individual music tuition, no charges may be made for activities taking place during the school day. In no circumstances may schools charge for activities which are required for a prescribed public examination or are part of the national curriculum.
