HC Deb 30 March 1993 vol 222 c119W
Mr. Fatchett

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what plans he has to attract private sector funding for the proposed move of the royal armouries museum to Leeds; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Key

The Department is contributing £20 million to the project, and further contributions are being made by Leeds development corporation and Leeds city council. Merchant bankers acting for the armouries have now circulated a briefing memorandum to potential investors, who will be invited to contribute the rest of the estimated cost of £42 million. The Government fully support this important project, which will bring significant benefits to Leeds.
