To ask the Secretary of State for Education what action he is taking to end corporal punishment in schools.

Mr. Forth

Corporal punishment is already prohibited in maintained schools and for those pupils in independent schools whose fees are met from public funds. We will of course reflect carefully on the recent judgment by the European Court of Human Rights.
