HC Deb 29 March 1993 vol 222 cc101-2W
Ms Ruddock

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many applicants since 1990 have been allowed leave to remain indefinitely in the United Kingdom under(a) the 10-year concession and (b) the 14-year concession; over the same period, how many applications were refused in each category; and of those refused who went on to appeal, how many of these appeals were successful.

Mr. Charles Wardle

Under the long residence concession, a person who has 10 years or more continuous lawful residence in the United Kingdom, or 14 years continuous residence regardless of legality, may qualify for the grant of indefinite leave to remain depending on the circumstances of their particular case. The information we have does not distinguish those allowed to remain indefinitely after 14 years from those allowed to remain after 10; and information on refusals and on grants following appeal is not identifiable separately in the statistics. The information we have is as follows:

Acceptances for settlement under the long residence concession (excluding dependants)
Number
1990 2,600
1991 2,200
1992 12,100
1Provisional.
