HC Deb 29 March 1993 vol 222 c20W
Mr. Straw

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many changes to council tax banding valuations have so far been allowed by the Valuation Agency in advance of the general appeals period of 1 April to 30 November; what is the total number of such changes expected to have been processed by 1 April; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Nelson

[holding answer 23 March 1993]: The total number of changes to the draft valuation lists since they were deposited with billing authorities in early December 1992 to the end of February 1993 is 174,236 in England and Wales. It is estimated that some 200,000 changes may have been made by 1 April 1993.

Amendments to the draft valuation lists result from both notification of the listing officers by the billing authorities of changes to existing, new or demolished dwellings, and from inquiries from the public following the publication of the draft valuation list.

No statistics are available to distinguish between the number of changes made following notification from billing authorities and inquiries from the public.
