To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what steps he is taking to ensure that the viability of registered care homes affording generalist provision for single homeless people is not put at risk by the implementation of the community care legislation on 1 April.

need it, whether or not they have a settled way of life. The money that the Department of Social Security would have spent supporting single homeless people in residential care homes is included within the resources being transferred to local authorities. We have made clear in guidance authorities' responsibilities for this group of people. It is for authorities themselves to decide how they spend their resources.
