To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will appoint more bees officers for Gwent.

It is proposed to employ seven bees officers in Wales in 1993. I am aware of concerns about possible outbreaks of varroa in Wales, although there are at present no confirmed cases of the disease. The importance of disease prevention is fully appreciated, and if any cases of varroa or other notifiable bee diseases are confirmed, appropriate control measures will be implemented.
