§ Mr. WigleyTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what steps are being taken by his Department to develop means of measuring the economic value of unpaid work undertaken by women.
§ Mr. PortilloThe Government recognise the contribution of women—and men—who undertake work caring for others in the home. For example, home responsibilities protection (HRP) is designed to protect the state pension position of both women and men who are unable to work regularly because they are required to stay at home to look after a child or sick or disabled person. Home responsibilities protection reduces the number of qualifying years a person needs to qualify for a full basic pension.
