HC Deb 26 March 1993 vol 221 c744W

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what recent representations he has had about British and EC regulations to cut the testing of cosmetics on animals; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Leigh

[holding answer 22 March 1993]: Since adoption of a common position to ban the testing of ingredients in cosmetics on animals by 1998—subject to a viable alternative—proposed in the sixth Council amendment to directive 76/768/EEC, some 250 letters have been received about ending such testing.
