HL Deb 25 March 1993 vol 544 c24WA
Lord Belhaven and Stenton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether traffic wardens and local authority parking attendants are instructed to assist the police in protecting cars from theft and vandalism, and whether they are also instructed to look out for car bombs.

The Minister of State, Home Office (Earl Ferrers)

The primary role of traffic wardens and parking attendants employed by local authorities is to enforce parking regulations in their area of responsibility. In addition, they are briefed at local level to be vigilant and to bring to the immediate attention of the police any suspicious persons or incidents which they encounter. This would include car thieves and supicious vehicles or packages which could have a terrorist implication.
