HC Deb 25 March 1993 vol 221 c706W
Mr. Dunn

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will announce the award of a major section 8 grant in the north of England to which he referred during the Standing Committee on the Railways Bill of 11 March, column749.

Mr. Freeman

I am pleased to announce today that a £3.1 million freight facilities grant, under section 8 of the Railways Act 1974, has been accepted by the quarrying and construction company, Tilcon Ltd., which is a wholly owned subsidiary for the BTR Group. The grant, which represents 50 per cent. of the cost of rail facilities, including new rail wagons, will enable limestone from Tilcon's Swinden quarry in the Yorkshire Dales national park to be moved to Leeds and Hull by rail rather than by road.
