HC Deb 25 March 1993 vol 221 c650W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many Polaris missiles have been purchased from the United States.

Mr. Aitken

In the late 1960s, the United Kingdom purchased 99 Polaris missiles, comprising rocket motors and ancillary equipment, from the United States. A further 70 rocket motor sets were subsequently purchased for spares and as part of the Chevaline development programme. In the early 1980s, the United Kingdom replaced existing stocks with 82 new rocket motor sets as part of the Polaris remotoring programme.
