HC Deb 24 March 1993 vol 221 c639W
Mr. Ralph Howell

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment under what circumstances an unemployed person earning £53 per week can receive unemployment benefit.

Mr. Burt

I have been asked to reply.

Unemployment benefit is not payable for any day on which net earnings exceed £2 and for any benefit week in which net earnings equal or exceed the lower earnings level for the payment of national insurance contributions—currenity £54.

There are more generous rules for those undertaking public duties such as manning a lifeboat or serving as a member of the territorial or reserve forces.
