To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department who is responsible for receiving and investigating complaints against police doctors.

[holding answer 22 March 1993]: Complaints against police surgeons are normally made to the chief officer of the force concerned in the first instance. Where the complaint relates to specific matters of professional misconduct, it may be referred to the General Medical Council.
