To ask the Secretary of State for Health what role her Department has played in the decisions relating to the consequences of the overspend at Leighton hospital, Crewe; and if she will make a statement.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what discussions have been held with the chairman of Merseyside regional health authority about the overspend for Leighton hospital, Crewe.

Mr. Sackville

Discussions have taken place between the Mid Cheshire hospitals trust, the National Health Service Management Executive and Mersey regional health authority. The trust will meet its financial obligations at the end of this year. The trust is discussing with Crewe health authority the possibility of additional funding to enhance existing services.
