§ Mr. BaldryHousing associations are now the main providers of social housing through new build, renovation of existing dwellings and a whole range of other measures, including those announced as part of the autumn statement. An extra 66,000 housing association homes supported by Housing Corporation grants will be made available to new tenants during the financial year 1992–93.
The Government see the primary tasks of local authorities as to manage effectively their large stocks of council housing and to enable others to provide new housing.
