§ Mr. WigleyTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales what percentage of the housing stock in the districts of(a) Aberconwy, (b) Dinefwr, (c) Dwyfor and (d) Preseli, at the latest available date, (i) was unfit, (ii) required over £3,000 spent on it to render it fit, (iii) lacked basic amenities and (iv) lacked amenities where the head of the household is over pensionable age; and if he will make a statement on the strategy of the Welsh Office with regard to improving the housing stock in such areas.
§ Mr. Gwilym JonesThe latest available information is from the 1986 Welsh house condition survey and is shown in the table:
547W(2) The estimated cost of repairs in 1986 which would be required to meet the standard for improvement grants.
(3) Those dwellings which lack exclusive use of one or more of the following: w.c. with entrance inside the building; a fixed bath or shower; a plumbed in wash hand basin; a plumbed in kitchen sink and a hot and cold water supply at the previous three points.
Very substantial resources have been made available to local authorities in Wales for the renovation of the housing stock. A further Welsh house condition survey is currently under way. The results are expected around the end of the year.
