HC Deb 23 March 1993 vol 221 c573W
20. Mr. Simpson

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will make a statement on the future of services provided in health promotion clinics.

Dr. Mawhinney

From 1 July 1993 payments to general practitioners for health promotion clinics will be replaced by annual payments for structured health promotion programmes, which could include clinics, concentrating, in the first instance, on reduction of smoking, coronary heart disease and stroke.

There will also be separate payment for chronic disease management programmes for asthma and diabetes, and a two-year transitional scheme to help protect existing activity outside the scope of the new programmes.
