HL Deb 23 March 1993 vol 544 c12WA
Lord Gainford

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What plans they have for the future of the Fleet and Repair Organisation, Portsmouth.

Viscount Cranborne

We have given full and careful consideration to the representations made on the proposals, announced by my right honourable friend the Minister of State for the Armed Forces on 12th November 1992 (H.C. Deb., cols.WA 882–883), to cease refit work at the Fleet Maintenance and Repair Organisation, Portsmouth and to reduce excess capacity amongst the workforce. We have decided to proceed with these proposals, taking account of the overall problems of excess refit and repair capacity in the UK.
