HC Deb 22 March 1993 vol 221 c512W
Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what steps are taken to ensure that the standard of prostheses supplies from outside the United Kingdom are suitable for use in the national health service; what assessment he has made of the average time span before the requirement for revision for(a) imported protheses and (b) those manufactured in the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. David Hunt

The responsibility for the issue of prostheses, both upper and lower limbs, lies with the artificial limb and appliance service. In Wales, the day-to-day management of the service is discharged by the Welsh Health Common Services Authority. However, before any applicance or prosthesis is dispensed in this country the medical devices directorate issues a certificate of acceptance.
