To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland when he plans to make a statement on contaminated land in Scotland.

[holding answer 18 March 1993]: An announcement on contaminated land arrangements in Scotland, as provided for in section 143 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, will be made shortly.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has had from the Law Society on contaminated land.

[holding answer 18 March 1993]: The Law Society offered a number of comments on the consultation paper, issued in August 1991, on proposals for registers of land that may be contaminated. The comments mainly concerned blight and uncertainty within the properly market. In September 1992 it also submitted further representations in association with others outlining alternative proposals relating to use of the planning system.
