HC Deb 18 March 1993 vol 221 c386W
Dr. Godman

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what educational options are available to those schoolchildren who have been(a) temporarily and (b) permanently excluded from their schools because of anti-social behaviour.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

This is a matter for parents, who have a duty to provide efficient education for their child, and for education authorities, which have a statutory duty to ensure the provision of adequate and efficient education for all children of school age in their areas. Options which may be appropriate, according to the individual circumstances, can include home tutoring, transfer to another school or entry to a special or independent school.
