HC Deb 18 March 1993 vol 221 cc331-2W
Mr. Richards

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will give the full details and the financial settlements for the early retirement of each of the four directors of education who have retired in the last six months in Wales; and if he will make a statement.

Sir Wyn Roberts

[holding answer 1 March 1993]: Eligible employees over 50 with two or more years' reckonable service who are made redundant or who leave in the interests of the efficiency of the service are entitled to immediate payment of the local government superannuation scheme retirement pension and retirement lump sum. Additionally, councils have discretion to enhance the pension and lump sum for those over 50 with five or more years' service by the award of up to 10 extra added years, according to various criteria. These are, however, matters for the local authorities concerned.

Mr. Rhodri Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales, pursuant to the answer from the Secretary of State for National Heritage to the hon. Member for Falmouth and Camborne (Mr. Coe) of 9 March, Official Report, columns 512–13, what changes he proposes in the funding of the Welsh National Opera company.

Sir Wyn Roberts

None.
